When planning:
- Clearly state needs, goals, action steps, and evaluation
- Include entire branch (or at least as many as possible)
- Start planning early - immediately after elections when the new board is set
- Report the plan to members
- Have a special planning meeting
- Plan one event to meet several goals
- Plan for visibility
- Relate planning to specific mission statements (Association, EF, LAF)
- Create a policy manual
- Analyze member or board profile
- Demonstrate learning and growth
- Celebrate successes throughout the year
How To Approach An AAUW Project*
- Briefly describe your project.
- List the goals of the project.
- What are the challenges of the project?
- List the people who will be working on the project and their
responsibilities.
- What are the resources for the project?
- Are there other people outside AAUW who can be a resource?
- Develop a timeline for the project.
- How will you follow up with the people who will be working on
the project?
- Evaluate the strengths and changes you would like to make in
the finished project.
- Apply for the Action in Equity Award.
Delegate Effectively*
- Avoiding holding on to responsibilities that you like or are
comfortable doing.
- Being aware of getting bogged down in administrivia.
- Avoiding taking over for others because you think your way is
better.
- Being sure the responsibilities are manageable and the individual
has the skills and the resources to do the job.
- Pointing out the strengths of what the individual has done and
make suggestions for changes.
- Knowing that delegation to others involves living with uncertainty
and ambiguity.
- Being willing to tolerate a certain amount of error.
- Seeing delegation as a means of helping AAUW members grow and
develop.
