"On September 8, 2010, Governor Paterson signed the Dignity for All Students Act into law. AAUW-NYS was one of the many organizations supporting this legislation. The law protects students from harassment, discrimination and bullying on school grounds and at school functions. It also protects students from cyber-bullying and other forms of written or verbal threats on and off school grounds. Those who report these prohibited practices are also protected. The law goes into effect July 1, 2011. In the meantime, school districts will be drafting mandated policies and training programs.
