Dr. Bina Roy (1914-1994) was an Indian
teacher and educational advisor who was the first Asian
President of the International Federation of University
Women. She believed that friendly and supportive links
should be forged among IFUW affiliates to provide strong
international solidarity. Her dream became a reality
in 1978 with the establishment of the Counterpart Aid
Program. It has since been renamed in her memory: the
Bina Roy Partners in Development Program. To date, nearly
60% of IFUW's national federations and associations
have participated in the program, either as project
sponsors or donor partners.

The Bina Roy Partners in Development Programme (BRPID) encourages
international solidarity and partnerships between the International
Federation of University Women (IFUW) federations and associations.
Its primary goal is to encourage projects empowering women and
girls through education and leadership development.
Donor contributions are used to help cover the IFUW membership
fees of national affiliates with projects. In turn, these national
affiliates invest an equivalent sum in their project work. These
joint efforts make possible programs and projects for the advancement
of women and girls in more than thirty countries.
At the same time, the Bina Roy Partners in Development Programme
enables groups of women graduates throughout the world to be part
of IFUW, permitting IFUW to be a truly global organization.
