Syracuse Branch

New York State AAUW

Updated: 11-14-2005

The Syracuse Branch of the New York State AAUW is one of the oldest branches in the state - we were formed in 1889! Our membership varies from year to year, but is generally around 50. Our members come from a variety of educational and occupational backgrounds. We have six general memberhip meetings, from September through May. Our Board meets five times a year, including the summer, to conduct business. The Syracuse Branch hosted the District III Fall Conference in September.

We have been a 5-star branch. Our contributions to the Educational Foundation and Legal Advocacy Fund have met the AAUW-NYS challenge. We contribute a local scholarship to a woman who is in a graduate degree program, as well as donate to a Vocational Technical School graduate bound for college.

We are members of the Syracuse Federation of Women's Clubs, and the International Center of Syracuse. Our current Diversity/International Relations Chair is director of the ICS and we cohost various groups of foreign visitors. Our November meeting is a joint program with the Women’s Study Class at Onondaga Community College . We will be hosting ten visitors from Russia through the Open World Program and the International Center of Syracuse.

The Clarion, our branch newsletter, is published 6 times a year. If you would like to receive a copy, please send an e-mail to Lois Woods requesting our latest issue and include your name and mailing address.
