Fall 2013 Issue

Branch programming is key to each member’s AAUW experience. It reinforces the reasons she or he joined our organization and, as the year progresses (hopefully to turn into a membership of many years), provides value far beyond that of our annual dues.
From branch meeting topics with overall emphases that enlighten, educate and, often, entertain branch members as a whole, to specific Action and Interest Groups that provide opportunities to focus on a specific subject, branch programming can run the gamut of issues facing women and girls in the 21st century.
Successful programming goes a long way towards attracting new members and keeping long-term members coming back year after year.  It can also increase AAUW name recognition in the community at large, which can lead to additional programming partnerships.
Formerly known as the 21st Century Awards, our AAUW New York State recognitions for outstanding branch programming have become the Marketing the Mission Award and the Powerful Programs Award. The former acknowledges overall programs throughout the branch year while the latter focuses on the single most outstanding program offered by the branch during that particular year.
In marketing the mission, AAUW branches provide programming that increases awareness among their members of areas in which AAUW is “advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.” The areas of interest and action can be as unique as each individual member.
Powerful programs require effort. They begin with thoughtful planning and move through logistics, execution and evaluation, to bring together the elements of a memorable, thought-provoking   program. Success is sweet – your branch worked hard to make it happen -- so brag about it!
The deadline for our 2013 programming awards is Friday, March 29. The awards will be presented at the state convention in Lake Placid during the weekend of April 26-29.

Please note - if you are planning to print any of the forms and will be submitting them in writing, please do not extend text past the capacity of its box. If more space is needed please put the additional information on a separate page and submit them together.
